Travel Tips

Driving is the best way to fully experience Australia’s Dinosaur Trail. Fully sealed roads connect Hughenden, Richmond and Winton. The Dinosaur Stampede (Lark Quarry) is located 110 km from Winton with 65 km of unsealed road. Please check road conditions before travelling.

The nearest car hire with major retailers is available from Longreach, Mount Isa, Charters Towers and Townsville.

Winton: Greyhound coach offers services between Brisbane to Mount Isa, stopping in Winton.
Departing Monday – Friday from Brisbane, and Wednesday – Sunday from Mount Isa.

Hughenden and Richmond: Greyhound coach offers services between Townsville and Mount Isa stopping in Hughenden and Richmond. Departing Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from Townsville, and Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from Mount Isa.

Winton: REX Airlines flies every Tuesday and Thursday from Townsville to Winton. Daily flights are available to Longreach from Brisbane. Car hire is available from Longreach Airport.

Hughenden and Richmond: REX Airlines flies every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Townsville to Mount Isa, stopping in Hughenden and Richmond.

Winton: The Spirit of the Outback train operated by Queensland Rail travels twice weekly to and from Brisbane to Longreach, with a rail coach link operating to Winton.
